Here is a graph of the hourly futures trading volume of the CME Group’s agricultural futures contracts.

Many of our brokerage clients ask what time of day does most of the trading activity occur in these ag markets.

As you can see in the above graph, the majority of futures trading takes place between 8:00am and 1:00pm (Chicago/Central time) even though most of these markets are open overnight.

I typically advise my clients to use Market and Stop orders cautiously during the overnight trading hours to avoid any increased price slippage.

It is always well advised to check the current bid/ask prices before placing any orders, especially when trading futures options.
